Thank you for all of the wonderful comments on my blog. 2015 was a busy year, and I took an exciting opportunity to take a sabbatical to Europe. While here, I am learning many aspects of skincare, culture, haircare and more. Here's a few topics of interest:
Throughout most of Europe, and especially where I am in eastern Germany (about 1.5 hours from Prague (Czech Republic), the water is very hard. This creates the need for substantial haircolor strength in dyes and developer. Many of the brands we see in America are based in European countries, so they are popular here - L'Oreal, Wella, Schwarzkopf, Redken. I do search for Paul Mitchell products and salons and have seen them in the larger cities -- Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich.
Regarding Skincare items. If you want to purchase facial cleansers, moisturizers, masks and lifting creams, you can get nice products at the local version of Walgreens (Muller or Douglas) or the higher-end retail stores (Kaufland). If you want stronger, more concentrated items, you must go to the Apothecary - and you don't need a prescription. At the Apothecary, there are several skincare brands. I am still in major research mode on these stronger, more concentrated skincare brands here, so I am not ready to provide brand-specific information yet. I'll keep you posted.
As I often tell my skincare clients, your skin benefits greatly from a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle. In Europe, walking and/or riding bikes are popular transportation modes. So European women definitely have an advantage on Americans in that area. Also, the cities often feature pedestrian only mall areas, which makes it really convenient to walk and cycle. Sidewalks are everywhere, and people just enjoy being outside -- that's even when it's 25-30 degrees outside. It's a very lovely, social atmosphere.
As I continue my daily German lessons, I can converse better with my neighbors and friends and learn more about culture here. I find the German people very friendly. And am enjoying the beautiful four plus inches of snowfall as well as awesome skiing. I will keep you posted. Thank you again for your comments and please continue to share with me.
